心とは

世界あるいは宇宙は、私たちの外に在るのだとする固執を心と呼びます。言うなれば意識の固執であり、心という物体があるのではありません。世界は外にあると、意識が断定、主張しているのです。この主張は、人格という名の局在的存在、個体の形態をとりますが、その自己肯定の中心を心と呼びます。精神器官と呼んでもよいでしょう。

Our insistence that the world or the universe is outside us is called the mind. It is a kind of conscious insistence. It cannot be called a thing. It is a procedure of the consciousness by which it asserts that the world is outside. This assertion takes the form of an individual, localised existence, called the personality, whose centre of affirmation is called the mind. We may call the mind, also by some other name, such as the psychic organ.
